Nakau

When I lived in Kyoto for several months last year, I stayed in a long-term apartment north of Kyoto Station on Shichijodori. At the time, I was working long hours, and usually returned around midnight or so. There's not much open around that time. But I was lucky. Next to the building on the corner is a chain restaurant called Nakau (なか卯). They're open 24 hours! So I ate here really often.

It's like a normal fast food Japanese restaurant. You order from a vending machine to buy a ticket, instead of at the counter. I suppose this way, there's no mistake and no one has to handle any money. Also, if the place is busy, it's really efficient. It's an interesting system.

They have a lot of beef bowls (gyuudon or 牛丼) and udon noodles. Their menu changes here and there, so this time, I tried tan-tan udon with a normal beef bowl. I put a lot of spicy stuff (七味) on the beef, that is usually used for the udon. And if you think the middle bowl is raw egg, you're right. I didn't order it, but they gave it to me by mistake. Raw egg or not, it's manifest destiny! Eh, I don't really care for it though. It's not a top-notch eatery, but because I ate it so often, I had to take my first opportunity to come back. :)
